About the Role:

  • Join a rapidly growing Fintech Company and make your impact on the Data Operations team. As a Data Engineer on our team, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting the migration of dbt models from Redshift and Snowflake to Trino (Iceberg). Your contributions will ensure seamless data transitions and maintain high-quality, efficient, and scalable data models that align with our evolving infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Migration Support: Support the migration of dbt models from Redshift and Snowflake to Trino (Iceberg), ensuring compatibility, performance, and best practices throughout the process.
  • SQL Syntax Fixes: Update and fix SQL syntax in dbt models from Redshift and Snowflake to align with Trinosyntax.
  • Version Control: Use Git for version controlling dbt models and collaborate effectively with the team to maintain consistency.
  • Optimization & Refactoring: Refactor and optimize data models to ensure they meet best practices, focusing on Iceberg architecture.
  • BI Tool Integration: Ensure data sources are aligned with the new infrastructure, particularly in Tableau assets.
  • Collaboration & Testing: Work closely with workbook owners and the analytics team to validate and test the migration’s impact on data models.
  • Daily Standups & Prioritization: Actively participate in daily standups and collaborate with the engineering team to prioritize migration work.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: BS/BA in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience:
  • 2+ years of experience in a data engineering, BI, or analytics role.
  • 1+ years of experience in the financial services and/or SaaS industries.
  • Experience with dbt and modern data modeling best practices.
  • Version control experience using Git is essential.
  • Previous experience in a startup environment is a plus.

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficiency in SQL: Strong skills in SQL with experience across multiple SQL dialects (Redshift, Snowflake, Trino (Iceberg)).
  • dbt Expertise: Deep understanding of dbt, including model development, macros, and Jinja templating.
  • BI Tool Experience: Familiarity with BI tools like Tableau, and understanding of data source construction for those tools.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills to guide stakeholders through changes in data infrastructure and manage expectations.
  • Migration Experience: Proven track record of refactoring SQL and dbt models to support infrastructure migrations.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Experience working in a startup or high-growth company.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data warehouses and tools, such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
